Blizzard wipes out weekend's sports events


The weather has forced plenty of schedule changes to this weekend’s schedule.

The Jerry Opbroek wrestling invite at Mitchell High School Saturday has been canceled, and the Kernel gymnastics meet at Pierre on Monday has been postponed.

The Dakota Wesleyan University basketball games at Midland (Neb.) have been pushed back to Sunday, with the women starting at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m. DWU track and field and wrestling both had their meets canceled, too.

The girls Hanson Classic has been postponed until Monday, with seven games scheduled to be played at the Corn Palace. Bridgewater-Emery and Langford Area tip off at 10:30 a.m., followed by Corsica-Stickney vs. White River at noon and Parkston vs. Hamlin at 1:30 p.m.

Faulkton Area plays Ethan at 3 p.m., McCook Central/Montrose takes on St. Thomas More at 4:30 p.m., Winner faces Lennox at 6 p.m. and Sioux Falls Christian takes on Sioux Valley at 7:30 p.m. Hanson and Waubay-Summit will now play at noon on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Corn Palace.


The girls and boys 281 Conference tournament scheduled in Wolsey has been postponed until Monday in Huron. Sanborn Central/Woonsocket girls face Iroquois/Doland at 6:30 p.m. and the SCW boys play James Valley Christian at 8 p.m., with both at Huron Arena.

The Wessington Springs girls basketball team faces Hitchcock-Tulare at 3:30 p.m. at James Valley Christian, followed by the Wessington Springs boys against Highmore-Harrold. The second-round pairings and locations will be announced after the first round is completed.

The Centerville vs. Canistota girls basketball game on Saturday has been pushed back to Feb. 20. The Canistota vs. Ethan boys game has been postponed to Jan. 27 as part of a doubleheader.

The McCook Central/Montrose vs. Sioux Valley boys game has been moved to Friday, Feb. 21, in Montrose. The Howard vs. Baltic doubleheader has been postponed to Tuesday, Feb. 11.
