These days we seem to cram Thanksgiving between Halloween and Christmas, almost an afterthought, or a chore to be done, like feeding the chickens between breakfast and the fieldwork. Too bad. It’s a fine holiday.
Adventurous as it sounds — and it was for us — the simple geographic fact remained that had we backtracked to the levee we could have seen the dairy barn, dry cows and Mom’s clothesline in the distance.

What I have done — and secretly really enjoy doing — is take part in County Fair’s celebrity bagging fundraiser, the Friday each year preceding Thanksgiving. I
I very much liked it that way. I had no desire to hear any more political talk for a while. I had my fill.
When people say (and yes, I do hear your comments), “The local newspaper just isn’t local anymore,” my response: That’s just not true.
