It was all Yankton in the girls Gazelle-Kernel Challenge, as Yankton's high school girls golf team won convincingly in the dual competition against Mitchell Friday at Lakeview Golf Course.
Yankton won the competition, 23-1, in the Ryder Cup-style format, which included best ball play during the first six holes of the 18-hole round, a two-player scramble from holes 7-12 and single match play in the final six holes. The annual event's winner receives the Marchand Cup, in memory of Rob Marchand, who graduated from Yankton and coached golf in Mitchell before his death in 2014.
"It was a good change of pace for us," said Kernels coach Keri Munsen. "It was good to go out and have fun and not worry so much about how they play. We said that Rob always had a smile on his face and so we focused on having a smile on our face when we played."
Mitchell split a pair of matches for the team's only scoring output of the day. Jordyn Cranny and Kaitlyn Uithoven halved their four ball competition with Yankton's Linze Cowman and Payton Pierce. In match play, Mitchell's Deliah Brinker halved with Yankton's Hailey Reisner.
"Jordyn Cranny hit the ball well and with (Uithoven), they had a good group," Munsen said. "She had a really good time and that makes it easier."

The Kernels are at a triangular at 2 p.m. Tuesday against Sioux Falls Lincoln and Yankton at Prairie Green Golf Course in Sioux Falls.
