Winner’s Brozik lands on Class A all-state first-team

After helping Winner qualify for its third straight Class A state volleyball tournament, Ellie Brozik has been chosen as a first-team all-state selection. The teams were selected by the South Dakota Volleyball Coaches Association.

Brozik helped the Warriors place seventh at the Class A state volleyball tournament. The 5-foot-8 junior outside hitter recorded 415 kills, 48 aces, 13 solo, 17 block assists and 186 digs. She also surpassed 1,000 career kills earlier this season.

“What makes Ellie an outstanding volleyball player is her passion for the game of volleyball and her work ethic,” Winner coach Jaime Keiser said. “She is a great leader and puts a lot of time in to get better. She is a powerful and consistent hitter that reads the court well and sees the holes. She has meant a lot to our program over the last couple of years. Ellie is a competitor and makes everyone around her better, which makes our program better.”

Rapid City Christian’s Riley Freeland, Madison’s Abby Brooks, Sioux Falls Christian’s Abby Glanzer, Dakota Valley’s Rachel Rosenquist and Sioux Falls Christian’s Kelsi Heard were also first-team selections. Glanzer is a repeat first-team selection, while Brozik was a second-team honoree last season. Brooks, Heard and Freeland were honorable mention selections last season.

Wagner’s Abby Brunsing was a second-team honoree after earning first-team status last season. The 5-foot-10 outside hitter posted 254 kills, 28 aces, 15 solo blocks and 207 digs this season.

Hill City’s Hailey Walthen, Parker’s Brooke Berens, Dakota Valley’s Taylor Wilshire, Hamlin’s Ashtyn Abraham and Aberdeen Roncalli’s Elissa Hammrich were second-team selections.

McCook Central/Montrose’s Riley Morrison and Winner’s Kalla Bertram were honorable mention selections. Morrison, a senior libero, posted 31 aces and 491 digs. Bertram, a senior outside hitter, logged 257 kills, 69 aces and 294 digs.

Madison’s Sophia VandenBosch, Rapid City Christian’s Olivia Kieffer, Redfield’s Addison Rozell, Sioux Falls Christian’s Brooklyn Pater, Baltic’s Elyssa Clark and Hill City’s Dale Schrier rounded out the honorable mention team.
