Winner drops state tourney match to Madison

WATERTOWN -- Winner couldn’t slow down Madison on Friday during the Class A state tournament. The Warriors dropped a four-set match, with Madison earning a 25-21, 22-25, 25-20 and 25-18 win.

Madison was led by Abby Brooks, who put down 31 kills to go with eight digs. Sophia Vandenbosch added 24 digs and 11 kills, while Kylie Krusemark dished out 32 assists and 13 digs. Autumn Barger added 18 digs, while Ali Vacanti and Raena Rost finished with 14 and 13 digs, respectively.

Kalla Bertram and Ellie Brozik recorded 18 and 17 kills, respectively, to pace the Winner attack. Mackenzie Levi had 35 assists and 19 digs, while Maggie LaCompte had a team-best 20 digs. Bertram finished with 17 digs and Jenna Hammerbeck added 13 digs.

Madison (17-5) plays Rapid City Christian at 2 p.m. today in the fifth-place game. Winner (22-6) takes on Hill City at noon today in the seventh-place game.
