Winner/Colome blanks Alexandria in Sunshine League showdown

Connor Hopkins strikes out 16 as Pheasants move to 7-0

WINNER, S.D. — Connor Hopkins' three-hit shutout and 16 strikeouts propelled the Winner/Colome Pheasants to a 10-0, eight-inning win over Alexandria on Friday night in Sunshine League amateur baseball action.

Hopkins threw 122 pitches and kept the Angels in check, while Winner/Colome led 1-0 after one inning, 5-0 after five frames and put the game away with a five-run inning in the eighth to invoke the 10-run rule.

Reed Harter and Austin Calhoon each had home runs, with Harter driving in three runs. Derek Graesser had three hits and Drew DeMers scored a pair of runs.

Peyton Smith had all three hits for the Angels. Ethan Davis allowed nine runs on 11 hits in 7 1/3 innings for Alexandria.

Winner/Colome (7-0, 2-0 Sunshine) travels to Dimock/Emery on June 2. Alexandria (3-2, 1-1 Sunshine) will host Wessington Springs on May 31.
