Winner Area tops competition at Burke/Gregory invite

GREGORY -- Winner Area cruised past the competition at the Burke/Gregory invitational to earn first place.

The Warriors scored 163 team points, followed by Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon (148) in second. Burke/Gregory (134) took third at its home invite, while Wessington Springs/Woonsocket (114) earned fourth place.

Winner had numerous first-place finishers. Maxton Brozik pinned BHSA’s Brock Kotalik to claim the 106-pound championship. At 113 pounds, Karson Keiser had a pin in the championship match. Aaron Gilchrist (138) picked up another first-place finish for the Warriors with a 12-6 decision against Wessington Springs/Woonsocket’s Joey Hoverson. Riley Orel (152) won 1-0 in the championship match over Wessington Springs/Woonsocket’s Keegan Haider.

Winner’s Jude Sargent took second place, as well.

Burke/Gregory’s Owen Hanson pinned BHSA’s Jackson Caba in the 126-pound title match. It added another champion at 182 pounds in Tucker Even, who won a 13-0 major decision over Lyman’s Gunner Johnson.

Jhett Eklund finished in second place at 145 pounds for BG. Jackson Bauld placed third at 113 pound over Lyman’s Hunter Collins. At 132 pounds, BG’s Kort Schonebaum pinned Marion/Freeman’s Stewart Taylor in the third-place match. Tyler Spencer (138) and Gunnar Stephens (170) both earned third place, while Rylan Peck (160) took down Winner’s Riley Shippy for third place.

BHSA’s Tyler Tjeerdsma (120) and Isaac Crownover (160) both claimed first place. Jordan Gall (195) also won a championship, taking down Wessington Springs/Woonsocket’s Brock Stevens. Turner Nicholson took down Gavin Tucker for third place at 182 pounds. D.J. Rueb (285) notched third place over Lyman’s Demery Hood.

Wessington Springs/Woonsocket’s Quinten Christensen won at 285 pounds, while Kayden Carter earned third place over Winner’s Konner Osborn at 120 pounds. Erick Klanchnik (170) took second.

Lyman’s Kellen Griffith placed third at 126 pounds. Tance Wagner took third at 145 pounds over Winner’s Jack Peters.

In girls wrestling, BHSA’s Britney Rueb notched a pin to claim the 100-pound title. Lyman’s Kennadee Shook (132-152) earned first, as well, while Lyman wrestlers Quincy Tayler and Tina Shields took third and fourth, respectively.

Howard wins home invite

HOWARD -- The host Howard Tigers picked up a team title at the Ken Ruml invite on Saturday. Howard earned 157 team points, while McCook Central/Montrose took second with 130 pounds. Parkston placed fourth at 96.5 points.

Howard’s Riley Genzlinger (132), Lane Miller (152) and John Callies (160) all placed first, as Callies pinned Parkston’s Noah Mahoney. William Rentz notched third place at 285 pounds with a pin over MCM’s Alex Huls.

Parkston’s Gavin Braun won at 106 pounds, while Wyatt Anderson (113) added another individual championship for Parkston over Howard’s Trent Feldhaus. Porter Neugebauer (126) also won for the Trojans, taking first over Howard’s Karsten Hamilton.

MCM’s Jackson Remmers won at 138 pounds with a 7-5 decision against Howard’s Kieffer Klinkhammer. The Fighting Cougars had another champion in Kade Crocott (170), who won over Howard’s Ty Beyer, and Jacobi Krouse (182), who defeated Wagner’s Nolan Dvorak. MCM’s Austin Hoiten took second. Trystan Traupel earned third place over Howard’s Tate Miller at 106 pounds. Dakota Buck notched third place.

Wagner’s Jhett Breen (120) won, while Bradyn Lhotak placed third at 138 pounds over MVPCS’ Brandon Bosworth.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney had a champion at 285 pounds in Kellen Cassidy, It also had numerous third-place finishers with Austin Hauge (126), Cole Pranger (220), Griffin Tobin (132) and Drew Gerlach, who took down Wagner’s Riley Roberts.
