Kraft, Medicine, earn cross country all-state honors

Wessington Springs’ Jase Kraft and Dakota Christian’s Owen Medicine were each named to the Class B boys’ cross country all-state team, it was announced Tuesday.
In Class B, the top nine finishers were given the honor.
Kraft won the Class B boys’ state championship with a time of 16 minutes, 55.10 seconds. Medicine finished eighth with a time of 18:20.
Kraft was also awarded all-state top 25, which is an award given to the top 25 finishers between all three classes at the state meet.
No area girls were named to the all-state team.
Jackrabbit women fall to Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. - South Dakota State University had three players score in double figures but fell to Creighton University 68-63 in a women’s basketball game Tuesday.
Steph Paluch led the Jackrabbits with 17 points, flowed by Mariah Clarin with 12 and Megan Waytashek with 11. Kerri Young, a Mitchell native had two points, three rebounds and two assists in 25 minutes of action for SDSU, which outrebounded Creighton 39-26.
Creighton was led by Marissa Janning with a game-leading 20 points.
SDSU shot 42.6 percent from the field and 59.1 percent from the free-throw line. Creighton shot 47.2 from the field and 78.6 percent from the line.
The Jackrabbits (0-2) host Georgetown in their home opener at 7 p.m. Friday at Frost Arena in Brookings.
Miller, Alm to sign letters of intent today at Blarneys

Mitchell High School seniors Macy Miller and Taylin Alm are signing NCAA National Letters of Intent at 6:30 p.m. today at Blarneys in Mitchell.
Both athletes are signing with Division I schools for the 2014-15 school year.
Miller is signing with South Dakota State University to play women’s basketball. Alm is signing with Pepperdine University to play women’s indoor and sand volleyball.
SDSU’s Sargent, MHS football seniors to speak at QB Club

The Quarterback Club’s special guests this week are Clint Sargent and seniors from the Mitchell High School football team.
Sargent is with the South Dakota State University men’s basketball team.
The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at The Depot in Mitchell.
