Walk-off single secures doubleheader sweep for Mitchell Black

Mitchell Black earned its third win of the season on Wednesday, as it swept Harrisburg in a teener baseball doubleheader on Wednesday. It drove in six runs in the third inning during a 7-3 win in Game 1, and then Peyton Mandel hit a walk-off single in the eighth for a 9-8 win to complete the sweep.

Mitchell trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the third of the first game. It proceeded to hit three singles and draw five walks in the frame. Landon Soulek’s two-run single capped the scoring. He finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Carter Miller added two hits, including a double, and Lincoln Bates drove in a run.

On the mound, Soulek struck out seven and went the distance. He gave up three unearned runs on three hits and four walks.

In the second game, Ben Wilber had two hits and two RBIs. Blake Brosz finished with two hits, as Mitchell recorded eight as a team. Hudson Haley picked up the win, striking out seven and giving up four runs (three earned) in 5.1 innings.

Peyton Klein suffered the loss. Lincoln McCloud hit two doubles, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Alex Smith and Evan Drake both had two hits.

Mitchell (3-5) hosts Brookings for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
