SIOUX FALLS -- The South Dakota prep volleyball season officially came to an end with the South Dakota Volleyball Coaches Association all-star game and it did so with a barn-burner.

The South all-stars -- coached by McCook Central/Montrose’s Tami Bies and Menno’s Rachel Stokes -- squeaked out a five-set win over the North, 16-25, 25-16, 25-23, 14-25 and 15-13 on Sunday at the Sanford Pentagon.

MCM’s Abigail Van Ruler recorded six kills and 10 blocks, while teammate Emily Bies dished out 18 assists. Sioux Falls Washington’s Phekran Kong hammered down 20 kills and eight blocks, while Dakota Valley’s Ally Beresford has 25 assists, 15 digs and four aces. Burke’s Taylee Indahl also had two aces.

Miller’s VonnaGail Schlechter led the North with 10 kills, while Miller teammate Kadye Fernholz posted seven kills and 19 digs. Watertown’s Alexx Bayles had 20 assists and Northwestern’s Madalyn Groft had 19 assists.
