ALEXANDRIA -- After splitting the first two sets, Gayville-Volin took set three and knocked off Freeman in the championship match of the Hanson Early Bird tournament on Thursday. Set scores were 25-15, 16-25 and 25-15.

Gayville-Volin (3-0): Sam Olson led the way with 12 kills and one block. Kayla VanOsdel added 11 kills and Olivia Petrik added 20 digs. Molly Larson chipped in with 19 digs and Keeley Larson contributed 32 assists. The Raiders travel to Canistota on Tuesday.

ALEXANDRIA -- Avon scored a pair of double-digit wins over Andes Central/Dakota Christian to take third place in the Hanson Early Bird Tournament, 25-12 and 25-13.

Avon (2-1): Madisyn Cameron had 10 assists, three digs and two aces, while Tiffany Pelton added six kills and four digs. Katie Gretschmann also had six digs. The Pirates host Parkston on Tuesday.

Andes Central/Dakota Christian (1-2): Melanie Mudder had a match-high 13 digs, while Isabel Pheifer and Jaiden Lense had seven digs apiece. The Thunder plays Bon Homme on Tuesday in Tyndall.

ALEXANDRIA -- After dropping the first set of the fifth-place match by 10 points, Platte-Geddes scored back-to-back wins over Hanson for the win, 15-25, 26-24 and 25-21.

Platte-Geddes (2-1): Abby Kortan had 12 assists and four aces, while Jada Tuttle had 11 digs and Elizabeth Arend had seven kills. Morgan Huber also added five kills and Hanna Robinson came up with eight digs. The Black Panthers host Todd County on Tuesday in Platte.

ALEXANDRIA -- After dropping its first two matches of the Hanson Early Bird Tournament, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket took down Freeman Academy/Marion in the seventh-place match, 25-11 and 25-9.

Hanson (1-2): Abby Kortan handed out 14 assists and had two aces, while Jada Tuttle came up with 16 digs. Morgan Huber also added six kills and Hanna Robinson pitched in eight digs.

CANTON -- Canistota dropped the first set of its tournament match against Canton, but rebounded to win the next three, 15-25, 25-17, 25-12 and 25-22.

CENTERVILLE -- Menno outlasted Centerville in five sets, with each of the last four settled by less than four points. The Wolves took the win, 25-10, 21-25, 25-20, 22-25 and 17-15.

WINNER -- Class A No. 2 Miller swept Winner in matchup of teams that reached the state tournament a year ago, 25-19, 25-14 and 25-16. Miller head coach Linda DeBoer recorded her 600th career win in the process.
