Area playoff volleyball roundup: Platte-Geddes nips MVP
PLANKINTON -- No. 5 Platte Geddes edged No. 4 Mount Vernon/Plankinton on Tuesday in Region 5A quarterfinal play, 25-19, 11-25, 25-21 and 25-22.
Platte-Geddes (14-17): Sawyer Naasz had a huge outing, posting 14 kills and 24 digs in the win for the Black Panthers. Taryn Starr added 13 kills and Courtney Neuman dished out 18 assists. Platte-Geddes plays McCook Central/Montrose on Thursday in Montrose.
Mount Vernon/Plankinton (14-16): Katlyn Briggs paced the Titans with 20 kills and three blocks, while Reagan Klooz was all over the court with 21 assists and 15 digs. Kailee Fox also pitched in three aces in defeat for MVP.Chester Area 3, Mitchell Christian 0
MADISON -- The top seed in Region 4B flexed its muscles as Chester Area topped Mitchell Christian in three sets, 25-11, 25-11 and 25-8.
Chester Area (23-5): Hailey Ewoldt had 34 assists and Makenna Larson added 10 kills and 13 digs. Jayda Kenyon also had eight kills and three blocks, while Hanna Reiff added 20 digs. Chester faces Hanson on Thursday in Madison.

FREEMAN -- No. 2 Canistota topped No. 7 Irene-Wakonda in Region 5B quarterfinal play, 25-19, 26-24, 22-25 and 25-11.
Canistota (22-7): Hannah Parry had a match-high 38 assists and nine digs, while Jordan Engbrecht had 12 kills and 23 digs. Noelle Hofer also had 12 kills and 14 digs and Cassidy Keller had 27 digs. Canistota plays Freeman on Thursday in Emery.
Irene-Wakonda (10-16): Emma McDonald had a match-high 34 digs and eight kills. Shannon Sokolowski also had 18 digs, nine kills and two blocks, while Malloy O’Malley had 14 assists and 15 digs. Nora O’Malley pitched in three kills, five digs and six blocks.Freeman 3, Alcester-Hudson 0
FREEMAN -- Region 5B’s No. 3 seed, Freeman, recorded a three-set victory over No. 6 Alcester-Hudson to advance to the regional semifinals, 25-11, 25-15 and 25-8.
Freeman (21-7): Rijjy Peterson stuffed the stat sheet for the Flyers, putting up 24 digs, four kills, four assists, four blocks and four aces. Emily Miller also added 15 kills, four digs and three aces. Josie Fuhrmann handed out 32 assists and came up with 10 digs, while Dayna Roth added 10 digs, five kills and three aces.
