Area volleyball roundup: Rustlers take down Jaguars

ETHAN -- Class B No. 3 Ethan remained undefeated after taking down Corsica-Stickney 3-0 Thursday. Set scores were 25-12, 25-19 and 25-18.

Ethan (10-0): Jada Plastow finished with nine digs and eight kills for the Rustlers, while Cameryn Logan served three aces and had seven kills. Maddie Miiller recorded 26 digs, and Mollie Miiller accounted for 13 digs and five aces. Jessica Bartscher had 29 assists. The Rustlers will participate in the Bridgewater-Emery Tournament on Saturday in Emery.

Corsica-Stickney (4-5): Courtney Menning had nine digs and six kills for the Jaguars, while Raven Barse finished with nine digs and four kills. Kassidy Clark had eight assists in the loss. The Jaguars play Kimball/White Lake on Tuesday in White Lake.

Bridgewater-Emery 3, Viborg-Hurley 0

EMERY -- Bridgewater-Emery downed Viborg-Hurley in three sets for a home win on Thursday. Set scores were 25-9, 25-14 and 25-12.

Bridgewater-Emery (5-2): Sydney Hoffman notched six kills for BE, while Joslyn Schrank racked up eight digs. Sophia Potter and Kerrigan Schultz had nine and eight assists, respectively. Haley Schulz tossed in four kills. The Huskies host the Bridgewater-Emery Tournament on Saturday in Emery.

Viborg-Hurley (1-9): Holly Richards tallied four kills for the Cougars, while Brianna Johnson dished up seven digs. Hannah Simonsen pitched in four assists. The Cougars host Menno on Tuesday in Viborg.

Burke 3, Stuart, Neb. 0

SPENCER, Neb. -- Burke snapped a four-game losing streak on Thursday as it took down Stuart, Nebraska, in straight sets. Set scores were 25-11, 25-13 and 25-13.

Burke (6-5): Taylee Indahl finished with 15 kills and eight digs for the Cougars, while Lainee Schonebaum recorded a team-high 12 digs. Bobbi Jo Wischmann served an ace and had 17 assists. Haley Benter finished with 12 assists for Burke. The Cougars play Platte-Geddes on Tuesday in Platte.

Stuart (1-6): Stats were not reported for Stuart. It plays Clearwater/Orchard on Sunday in Clearwater, Nebraska.

MVP 3, Mitchell Christian 0

MOUNT VERNON -- Mount Vernon/Plankinton got back to .500 as it swept Mitchell Christian on Thursday. Set scores were 25-14, 25-17 and 29-27.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton (5-5): Reagan Klooz served three aces and recorded 13 assists for the Titans, while Katlyn Briggs had 10 kills and four blocks. Shyla Tobin led the team with 16 digs in the win. The Titans play Canton in Mount Vernon on Thursday.

Mitchell Christian (2-9): Maggie Reynen had eight kills for the Golden Eagles, and Erica Thompson finished with 14 digs and 10 assists. Anna Cooper had a block and served an ace in the loss. The Golden Eagles travel to Ethan on Monday.

Lennox 3, Parkston 0

LENNOX -- Lennox defeated Parkston 3-0 in volleyball action Thursday in Lennox. Set scores were 25-15, 25-15 and 25-19.

Lennox (6-7): Madysen Vlastuin led the kill tally with 13 kills, while Riley Peters notched 11. Peters, Jenna Bruns and Gracie Bowers dished out 14 digs apiece. Leslie Fillipi totaled 27 assists and 10 aces. The Orioles play Irene-Wakonda on Tuesday in Wakonda.

Parkston (2-8): Maggie Baumgart had three kills, while Brenna Walz had two. Walz pitched in 16 digs and two aces, as Tiah Holzbauer added 13 digs. Izzy Hohn tossed up six assists.The Trojans play in the Cavalier Clash on Saturday in Tyndall.

Chester Area 3, Howard 0

HOWARD -- Class B No. 4 Chester Area defeated Howard 3-0 in volleyball action Thursday night in Howard. Set scores were 25-7, 25-10 and 25-7.

Chester Area (6-2): Jadon Wages notched 13 kills for Chester, while Jennilee Hoyer and Makenna Larson crushed nine kills apiece. Hailey Ewoldt racked up 38 assists, and Hanna Reiff dished out 32 digs. Larson also had 11 digs and five aces. The Flyers play in the Bridgewater-Emery Tournament on Saturday in Emery.

Howard (1-8): Austyn Smit recorded seven digs for the Tigers, while Kyra Shumaker added five digs and one kill. Emma Rudebusch had one assist. The Tigers host Dell Rapids St. Mary on Tuesday.

Bon Homme 3, Irene-Wakonda 1

TYNDALL -- Bon Homme hosted Irene-Wakonda on Thursday night and picked up its second consecutive win, 25-21, 25-21, 21-25 and 25-15.

Bon Homme (2-6): Ciera Himes recorded 16 kills and Johanna Jelsma dished out 34 assists in the win for the Cavaliers. Lauren Bestemeyer had nine kills and Jenae Alberts had eight. Bon Homme hosts the Cavalier Clash on Saturday in Tyndall.

Irene-Wakonda (2-5): Morgan Bak led the Eagles with seven kills, while Shannon Sokolowski and Emma McDonald had five kills apiece. Malloy O’Malley and Anna Orr each added eight assists. Irene-Wakonda participates in the Bridgewater-Emery Tournament on Saturday in Emery.
