Tiger volleyball opens season with two wins

CHICAGO — The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team opened the 2018 season with a pair of victories Friday at the Robert Morris University Eagle Invite, defeating the host Eagles and William Penn (Iowa) each in four sets.

In the opener, the Tigers won 25-18, 25-14, 21-25 and 25-15. Becky Frick had 11 kills and 11 digs, while Bridgett Knobbe logged 40 assists and eight digs. Winner's Sydney Fritz and Madison Smith each had 10 kills. Lyman product Sara Herman had 16 digs in the win.

In the match against William Penn, which DWU won 23-25, 25-14, 25-18 and 25-22, Frick had 25 kills, 22 digs and three blocks, while hitting .310 on the attack. Knobbe had 48 assists and nine digs, while Herman had 25 digs. Emily Brunsing had seven block assists in the victory. Fritz added 12 kills, while Smith had eight.

DWU (2-0) looks for two more wins today, playing Ave Maria (Fla.) at 10 a.m., followed by Graceland (Iowa) at 2 p.m.
