Volleyball roundup, scores for Sept. 27: Avon continues strong run of play with sweep of Bearcats

AVON — Picking up their fifth victory in the last six matches, the Avon Pirates wasted no time Monday night with a three-set sweep over Freeman Academy/Marion. Set scores were 25-15, 25-8 and 25-13.

Avon (11-4): Tiffany Pelton finished with a match high 14 kills and two blocks. Sam Brodeen and Reece Loewe each had five kills, with 11 digs and seven ace serves from Katie Gretschmann. McKenna Kocmich had 19 assists for the Pirates, who host Scotland on Sept. 28.

Freeman Academy/Marion (0-15): Hailey Stahl had four kills, with Alivia Weber logging 10 digs and three kills, with 14 digs from Emma McConniel. The Bearcats play at Sioux Falls Lutheran on Sept. 30.

Burke 3, TDA 1

ARMOUR — Adisyn Indahl had 26 kills in a four-set win for Burke at Tripp-Delmont/Armour on Monday night. Set scores were 25-22, 25-13, 18-25 and 25-13.

Burke (12-5): Indahl added nine digs and two aces. Paige Bull had nine kills and five blocks, with Kailee Frank logging six aces, 17 digs and six kills in the victory. Elly Witt had 17 assists and Ava Sargent had 12 assists, 13 digs and two aces for the Cougars, who play Boyd County (Neb.) on Sept. 30 in Burke.


TDA (6-5): Gracey Schatz had 12 kills for the Nighthawks, with Megan Reiner adding eight kills and 13 digs. Emma Fink had 14 digs and Hannah Stremick had four kills, 25 assists, nine digs and two aces for TDA, which travels to Marty on Sept. 28.

Howard 3, Viborg-Hurley 1

VIBORG — Howard earned a road victory Monday night in high school volleyball action to even its season record, with set scores of 23-25, 25-14, 25-23 and 25-10.

Howard (8-8): Aleya Kizer had 13 kills and six digs in the win. Kate Connor had 12 kills, with three blocks from Abby Aslesen, 19 set assists, 16 digs and two assists from Rylee Rudebuch and 16 digs and two aces from Emma Rudebusch. Howard hosts Colman-Egan on Sept. 28

Viborg-Hurley (4-10): Coral Mason had 14 kills and 33 digs, with Denae Mach logging 26 digs and two aces. Mataya Vannorsdel had 25 set assists and Delana Mach had nine kills and 31 digs for the Cougars, who travel to Baltic on Sept. 30.
