The Dakota Wesleyan University athletic department announced Wednesday that volleyball coach Eric Viney will not be back with the Tigers next season.
“We just decided to go in a different direction with the program,” said DWU Athletic Director Curt Hart, who declined to comment whether Viney was fired or his contract ran out. “Eric is a hard worker, he knows the fundamentals of volleyball and I want to thank him for his services.”
The Tigers finished the 2013 season with an overall record of 7-28 and 0-16 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. DWU finished 11th in the conference. The winless conference record came on the heels of a 2-14 GPAC performance in 2012.
Viney took over the volleyball program in 2008. In six years at the helm of the program, he compiled a record of 58-150.
The head coach’s two best seasons with DWU came in 2008 and 2009. The team won 13 games in both of those seasons.

Under Viney, the Tigers last appearance in the GPAC tournament was 2010.
Hart said the search for a new volleyball coach will start at the end of the week.
