USD, SDSU women tabbed as top-two teams in Summit

South Dakota is well-represented heading into the college basketball season.

The University of South Dakota and South Dakota State University women’s basketball teams were picked first and second, respectively, in the preseason coaches poll. USD garnered 20 first-place votes, while the Jackrabbits picked up 13.

Letcher native Myah Selland was also tabbed on the preseason all-Summit League first team after she posted 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game last season. The junior is joined by teammates Tagyn Larson on the first team, while Tylee Irwin was named to the second team.

For USD, Ciara Duffy was named the preseason player of the year, as she and Hannah Sjerven were both named to the first team. The Coyotes’ Chloe Lamb and Madison McKeever picked up second-team honors.

On the men’s side, USD was picked second and SDSU is fifth in the preseason coaches poll. North Dakota State took home the top spot.


USD also has the preseason player of the year on the men’s side in Stanley Umude. Triston Simpson joins him on the first time, with Tyler Hagedorn on the second team.
