The Wessington Springs girls basketball team used a quick start to take down Mitchell Christian 36-23 on Saturday in Mitchell.
Mitchell Christian head coach Jackie Van Laecken said turnovers hurt her team early on in the contest. The Golden Eagles committed 16 turnovers, while the Spartans had 11.
"That's what gave them the lead," said Van Laecken, whose team lost the rebounding battle 22-21. "We struggled with our passing game and rebounding."
After trailing by 12 at the half, Mitchell Christian fought back to come within five, outscoring Wessington Springs 9-2 in the third quarter. Van Laecken said her team's shooting went cold after the run, which secured the win for the Spartans.
Sheyanne Brodkorb led Wessington Springs with 15 points, while Morgan Tebay grabbed six rebounds. The Spartans were 13-of-36 from the floor, 4-of-13 from behind the arc and 6-of-13 from the line.
