DWU women’s soccer team ends season, misses playoffs

The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s soccer team fell short of the Great Plains Athletic Conference playoffs this season.

The Tigers’ season ended with a 2-1 loss to Concordia University Saturday in Mitchell. DWU finished with an overall record of 4-11-2 and 1-8-1 in the GPAC.

The Tigers finished tied with Mount Marty for eighth in the GPAC, but a loss earlier this season to the Lancers kept DWU out of the playoffs.

Junior forward Thara Ali Said led the Tigers with 11 goals and three assists this season, while goalkeeper Erika Carpenter picked up all four of DWU’s wins making 157 saves with a .758 save percentage.

DWU men’s soccer team to play Doane in first round of playoffs

The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s soccer team earned a sixth seed in the Great Plains Athletic Conference playoffs and will take on Doane College Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in Crete, Neb.

DWU lost to Doane earlier this season 2-0 at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex in Mitchell.

The regular season ended for DWU with a 1-0 loss to Concordia Saturday in Mitchell.

DWU heads into the playoffs with an overall record of 9-7-2 and 4-5-1 in the GPAC.

Grizzlies top Celtics 95-88

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Grizzlies scored 29 fourth quarter points to rally past the Boston Celtics for a 95-88 win over the Boston Celtics Monday in Memphis, Tenn.
Mitchell native Mike Miller scored five points on 2-of-4 shooting in the win.

Zach Randolph, Mike Conley and Jerryd Bayless each scored 15 points for Memphis.

Jeff Green led the Celtics with 22 points in the loss.

The Grizzlies play the New Orleans Pelicans at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Memphis, Tenn.

MMS 8th-grade girls take 3rd at Big Four tourney

The Mitchell Kernel eighth-grade volleyball team took third at the Big Four tournament Saturday at the Mitchell Middle School.
