The Parkston girls' golf team had four individuals place in the top 10 en route to winning the team title at the Mitchell Invitational Friday at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.

"I'm very pleased with how they conducted themselves," Trojan coach Tyler Hockett said. "In the morning, there were some nerves from the stage of this event, but they took one shot at a time and did great."

The event had 106 participants with 15 Class AA teams, two Class A teams and one junior varsity squad. The Trojans, who scored a 317, topped the field by 18 strokes. Pierre was second with a 335, Yankton (343) came in third, Sioux Falls O'Gorman (348) was fourth and Aberdeen Central (361) came in fifth.

Mitchell coach Rob Marchand, whose squad improved by 20 strokes from its last meet, said all of the indoor practices helped his team cut strokes.

"I was very happy about that," Marchand said. "From top to bottom, I was really impressed. I was very encouraged with what we were able to do on our long-range game."

Mitchell's next action is Monday when it plays in the Sioux Falls Invitational at 9 a.m. at Willow Run Golf Course. Parkston hosts the Parkston Invitational -- originally scheduled April 19 -- on Tuesday. Mitchell, Pierre, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Sioux Falls Christian and Aberdeen Central will also play in the Parkston Invitational.
