Ethan/Parkston’s Janish shines at DWU meet

Ten track and field teams took their outdoor frustrations inside on Monday.

Due to the snowy conditions, track and field teams have not been able to compete much outside this spring. But the Dakota Wesleyan University’s Avera Sports and Wellness Complex provided a place to compete on Monday.

Winner and Ethan/Parkston were the two area teams that competed at the Wesleyan High School Open.

It was a banner day for Ethan/Parkston’s Tulsa Janish, who notched two first-place finishes and two second-place finishes. He won the 60-meter dash (7.36), the 200 (23.72), finished second in the 400 (57.40) and in the 60 hurdles (10.17).

Ethan/Parkston had both winners in the pole vault, with Mollie Miiller winning the girls (8-feet) and Tucker Murtha winning the boys (6-6).

Winner’s Ellie Brozik won the 200 (27.34), while teammate Sidda Schuyler won the 3,200 (12:35.90). She also placed second in the mile run (5:36.67). Winner’s Kelsey Sachtjen placed first in the high jump with leap of 4-feet, 11-inches.

For the Winner boys, Brady Fritz won the triple jump (41-2) and placed second in the long jump (20-4). Fritz also placed second in the 200 with a time of 23.87.
