Black splits DH with Yankton
The Mitchell Black teener baseball team split a doubleheader with Yankton on Wednesday at Drake Field in Mitchell.
Mitchell won the first game 6-5 in nine innings and lost the second game 2-1.
In the first game, Jed Schmidt was the winning pitcher for Mitchell. He pitched three innings in relief; He allowed three hits and one run while striking out four. Brandon Krogman was the starting pitcher. He pitched six innings, allowed four runs on four hits, walked five and struck out three. Mitchell was down 5-3 in the seventh inning with two outs when it got consecutive hits from Reed Overweg, Josh Feiner and Parker Wenzel to tie the game. Mitchell then scored in the ninth inning to grab the win. Wenzel had a single and double, Schmidt had two singles, Austin Getty had a double and Feiner had a double.
In the second game, Mitchell Price took the loss for Mitchell. He threw five innings, allowed six hits and two walks while striking out three. Price also had two hits.
Mitchell is now 8-9 and is back in action today when it takes on Sioux Falls Central for a doubleheader at Drake Field in Mitchell. The first game is set to start at 5 p.m.
Tabor Legion picks up win
TABOR -- Nate Kloucek helped the Tabor Legion baseball team top Hartington, Neb., 7-2 Wednesday.
Kloucek picked up the win, throwing three innings in the start. He struck out four and allowed three hits.
Kodi Larson threw three innings, struck four and allowed one hit.
Kloucek also had a double and single at the plate.
For Hartington, Keenan Sudbeck had three singles.
Tabor (7-0) plays at 3:30 p.m. against Lincoln, Neb., in Yankton Friday in a wooden bat tournament.
Pitching helps Mitchell Gold sweep Yankton
The Mitchell Gold teener baseball team swept Yankton in a doubleheader Wednesday behind two complete-game pitching performances.
Dylanger Pierson helped Gold to a 3-1 win in the first game, while Luke Bartl threw a one-hitter in a 9-0 second-game win.
Pierson struck out three, gave up 10 hits and no walks for Mitchell. No player had multiple hits offensively for Gold. Neil Schlimgen had a triple, Pierson and Chase Harms each had a double and Mitch Johnson had a single.
Bartl struck out four and walked four. Offensively, Aaron Sudbeck had a double, two singles and an RBI and Johnson had a triple and an RBI.
Gold hosts Rapid City Post 320 and Brookings Saturday. Mitchell plays at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Drake Field.
Gold also hosts Rapid City Post 320 and Bon Homme Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
