SD U16 team wins third straight

TROY, Mich. -- The U16 South Dakota National Hockey Team defeated Fort Wayne 6-3 to win its four-team pool at the national hockey championships Friday.
The team advances as the top seed in the eight-team playoff bracket. Team South Dakota (3-0) will play the Utah Junior Grizzlies at 7:15 Central time today.
With a win, South Dakota will advance to the semifinal, which is played at 4 p.m. Central time today, but with a loss, the team is out because the rest of the tournament is single-elimination style. The championship game is set for 9 a.m. Central time on Sunday.

In Friday's game, Team South Dakota went took an early 3-2 lead after the first period. Mitchell's Jacob Cersosimo earned an assist on the team's third goal.
Fort Wayne, of Indiana, tied the game in the second but Team South Dakota, which had 60 shots on goal, responded with three unanswered goals in the third period to claim the top spot in its pool.
The U14 South Dakota National Hockey Team lost 5-3 in its final pool-play game to Nashville Junior Predators Friday.
The U14 team finished third in its pool and will not advance to the playoff bracket.
The team finished 1-2 in the tournament.
Trap Club leagues forming

Trap leagues are forming at the Mitchell Trap Club.

Flitner, Almond make honorable mention list

Lyman's Anna Flitner and Bailey Almond were named to the all-Western Great Plains Conference honorable mention list.
The all-conference team was headlined by Jones County's Madison Mathews, who was also named most valuable player. Other girls' basketball players on the all-conference team are Jones County's Becky Bryan, Wall's Autumn Schulz, Bennett County's Tania Risse and Taylor Kratovil, New Underwood's Jacy Benter, Rapid City Christian's Marrisa Heard, Kadoka's Kwincy Ferguson and White River's Gabbie Waln.
Uthe makes all-conference team for Lyman

Lyman's Jaylen Uthe made the all-Western Great Plains Conference boys' basketball team.
Uthe helped the Red Raiders to 8-13 record this season.
Other all-conference players were White River's Wyatt Krogman, Nic Waln and Joe Cameron, New Underwood's Dalton Benter and Cameron Koch, Jones County's Philip Mathews and Gus Volmer, Philip's Gunner Hook and Wall's Trevor Anderson.
