HURON -- The Mitchell High School volleyball team was swept by rival Huron on Tuesday. The No. 3 Tigers won 25-7, 25-15 and 25-19 in straight sets.

In the opening set, the Kernels (5-11) were doomed by a host of hitting errors against Huron (13-4).

“We had way more hitting errors than anything,” Mitchell coach Deb Thill said. “Our effort was good. Our passing was good. We just had a lot of hitting errors and actually throughout the night we did, but effort was good. The passing was good. We just couldn’t put it down.”

The Kernels cleaned things up in the third set and traded points with the Tigers. Huron was clinging to a 17-14 advantage, but the Kernels knotted it 17-17 on a Sarah Sebert ace. But the Tigers closed on a 8-2 surge as Emily Dale capped the night with back-to-back kills.

Sebert finished with 19 digs, while Katy Sebert posted 13 digs and 10 assists. Cameryn Logan added six kills and 13 digs. Lizzie Tyler logged five kills and eight digs, while Taylor Haring finished with four blocks and three kills.

The Kernels will host Rapid City Stevens at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at MHS gym.

“We just have to go back to practice tomorrow (Wednesday) and try to get better,” Thill said.
