Tiger men finish 6th at Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- The Dakota Wesleyan men's golf team finished in sixth place Saturday after the second day of the Buena Vista University Spring Invitational in Storm Lake, Iowa.

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- The Dakota Wesleyan men's golf team finished in sixth place Saturday after the second day of the Buena Vista University Spring Invitational in Storm Lake, Iowa.

The Tigers shot a 297 Saturday, eight strokes better than Friday's score. DWU finished with a 602, which was 17 strokes behind the champion, Luther College, which finished with a 585.

Nebraska Wesleyan was second with a 588, Wartburg College was third with a 589, Central College was fourth with a 590 and Kirkwood Community College was fifth at 598.

The Tigers were led by a two-day 145 from Brett Abbots, who finished in seventh place. Chris Pritchard had DWU's best performance Saturday. He tied for 17th and finished with a 149 after shooting a 69 on the second day. He shot an 80 on the first day.

DWU's Tyler Evenson fired a 152 to tie for 27th. He shot a 74 on Saturday. Nick Gates finished at 157 after his 78 on Saturday and Andrew Farrand finished at 159 after an 80 on Day 2.

DWU will have 10 days between competitions. The Tigers don't return to action until April 28, when they will compete in the fourth and final Great Plains Athletic Conference qualifier, which will be in Sioux City, Iowa.
