SIOUX CITY, Iowa - After taking a nine-point lead with seven minutes to play, Briar Cliff University outscored Dakota Wesleyan University 26-7 the rest of the way to pick up a 91-81 win Tuesday in Sioux City, Iowa.
“We had issues cleaning up on the glass and it caught up with us,” DWU first-year coach Matt Wilber said.
The Tigers (5-5, 0-2 GPAC) remain winless in the Great Plains Athletic Conference despite a game-high 29 points from junior forward Jalen Voss.
“Jalen was the best player on the court tonight and it’s disappointing to get a performance like that and not come out on top,” Wilber said.
Voss finished 13-of-20 shooting, while pulling down five rebounds in 29 minutes.

Mitchell native Jade Miller added 19 points for the Tigers on 7-of-14 shooting in the loss. Miller hit 3-of-6 3-pointers and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Trae Bergh hit four 3-pointers on seven attempts and finished with 14 points and six assists. Starting forward Luke Bamberg was held to two points before fouling out in the second half.
Former DWU football star Anthony Muilenburg continued to get comfortable with his new teammates. He scored eight points on 4-of-8 shooting in 24 minutes.
“He just keeps getting better,” Wilber said. “We didn’t just pick up a football player that can run around on a court. He is a basketball player and will bring a lot to our team.”
The Chargers (7-2, 4-0 GPAC) had five players score in double figures, led by Zach Otting’s 21 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Ricky Torres added 11 points and eight rebounds for BCU.
The Tigers have a week off and look to break through with a GPAC win when they head back to Sioux City, Iowa, for a matchup against Morningside College.
“The guys are going to take a few days off and when they come back, they know it is time to get focused,” Wilber said about his team’s time off.
The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Dec. 4.
