YANKTON - The Dakota Wesleyan University women's golf team took home a third-place finish in its season-opening meet Friday at the Mount Marty Fall Invite at Hillcrest Country Club.
Finishing at 703, the Tigers shot 359 as a team in Friday's final round after shooting 344 on Thursday but the entire 11-team field fell back with its scores on the second day. Morningside won the tournament with a 641, followed by Briar Cliff with a 699. The Mustangs' Maria Zorrilla won with an 11-over-par score of 156.
DWU's Jade Burr was the Tigers' top finisher with a score of 172, thanks to an 84 on Friday, which was the third-lowest round of the day. Platte native Niki Nelson shot 176 overall, with Parkston's Jayden Bormann in with 177, Kaitlyn Greenhoff logging a 179 and Megan Hinker posting 181.
DWU's JV team was sixth overall, with a score of 725. Winner's Ronae Klein and Mitchell's Ashley Zimmer shot 179 and 181, respectively.
