University of Sioux Falls AD resigning
SIOUX FALLS (AP) - University of Sioux Falls athletic director Kevin Hesser is resigning to take a private sector job in his home state of Nebraska.
Hesser’s resignation is effective Feb. 7. University President Mark Benedetto says he will appoint a committee to conduct a national search for a successor. Associate athletic director Pam Gohl has been appointed interim AD.
Hesser helped the Cougars transition from the NAIA to the NCAA Division II ranks. He says leaving is bittersweet.
New commissioner named for SDASA
SIOUX FALLS (AP) - Gary Young of Watertown has been named the next commissioner of the South Dakota Amateur Softball Association.
Young got started with ASA/USA Softball in 1974 as a men’s fastpitch player, and started umpiring the following year. In 1979, he was appointed the Northeast South Dakota Area fastpitch commissioner. He became the umpire-in-chief for northeast South Dakota in 1980.

He is succeeding Bill Maher, who is stepping down after nearly half a century at the helm of the state association, which oversees more than 2,000 teams.
Mitchell Marlin girls fall to Rangers

BROOKINGS- The Brookings Rangers girls’ hockey team defeated the Mitchell Marlins 9-1 Friday.
Mitchell’s lone goal was scored by Michelle Wyatt and Alex Jones recorded the assist.
Brookings outshot Mitchell 37-19 and scored the first six goals of the game.
Mitchell (1-9) plays Brookings again today at 8:15 p.m. on the road.
