The Mitchell High School girls tennis team scored nine wins in singles and doubles action on Tuesday at Hitchcock Park.
While this was supposed to be a triangular format including Rapid City Central along with Vermillion, Rapid City Central dropped out, making it a dual between Vermillion and Mitchell.
The Kernels won all nine duals, sweeping through Vermillion in singles 6-0 and doubles 3-0.
Atlanta Stahle topped Vermillion’s Emma Jury 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while Delaney Degen beat Vermillion’s Kambry Job at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0.
Amber Moller had more of a highly contested matchup as she beat Abby Hanson in No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-4.
Julia Platt and Sydney Reynolds both went 2-0 at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively, and did so while only surrendering one point each. Platt defeated Kasey Hanson 6-1, 6-0 and Reynolds defeated Mya Halverson 6-0, 6-1.
Megan Mastel beat Saige Jorgensen in straight sets at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, Olivia Hubar and Platt defeated Vermillion’s Emma Jury and Evie Auen with a two-set win, 6-3, 6-3.
Moller and Reynolds beat the Vermillion Hanson sisters at Flight 2, 6-2, 7-5, while Delaney Degen and Mastel took down Halverson and Jorgensen at Flight 3, 6-1, 6-3, to complete the perfect stretch of nine dual wins for Mitchell.
Mitchell travels to the Rapid City Invitational and faces St. Thomas Moore and Rapid City Christian on Thursday and Rapid City Stevens Friday morning. Friday afternoon Mitchell will also play in a doubles and singles tournament making 12 matches in three days for the Kernels.
