Sunshine League Wrapup: Mudcats stay perfect in league play with 6-3 win

The Parkston Mudcats amateur baseball team improved to 4-0 in the Sunshine League with a 6-3 win over the Mitchell Mad Dogs Sunday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.

Brady Nolz got the victory for Parkston with a complete-game win. Nolz allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out 12.

Jeff Harris had two hits and crossed the plate twice for the Mudcats.

Jamie Huber took the loss on the mound, allowing one earned run and recording five strikeouts.

Huber had two hits for Mitchell while Alex Loes had three hits, including a triple. Huber also had two hits and two RBIs in a 5-2 loss to Alexandria Friday in Mitchell.

The Mad Dogs fell to 0-4 in the Sunshine League and take on the Parkston Bullheads at 5 p.m. Sunday at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.

The Mudcats, who are 6-2 overall, host Crofton at 7:30 Wednesday in Parkston.

Parkston Rock Bass 13, Corsica/Stickney 3

PARKSTON -- After waiting through an hour-long rain delay, the Parkston Rock Bass went on to defeat Corsica/Stickney 13-3 in amateur baseball action Sunday in Parkston.

Billy Murtha's six innings were good enough for a win. He allowed two earned runs on four hits and struck out two.

Jordan Boehmer, Jared Weber and Billy Hamilton all had two hits for the Rock Bass. Boehmer scored three runs and Weber drove in two.

Derek Boltje was the only batter with multiple hits for Corsica/Stickney. Boltje went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base.

Luke Bamberg suffered the loss on the mound, two days after picking up a win in relief as his team defeated Kimball/White Lake 13-11 Friday in Corsica.

The Rock Bass moved to 2-2 in the Sunshine League while Corsica/Stickney fell to 1-3 in the league.

The Rock Bass host the Parkston Mudcats at 7 p.m. Sunday in Parkston and Corsica/Stickney's next league action will be against Alexandria at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Alexandria.

Parkston Bullheads 5, Mount Vernon 3

PARKSTON -- Eric Norden recorded 12 strikeouts in seven innings to help the Parkston Bullheads to a 5-3 victory over Mount Vernon in Sunshine League amateur baseball action Sunday in Parkston.

Tim Alley had two doubles to go along with a single for the Bullheads in the win. Tim Rands, Chad Neugebauer and Bob Malloy joined Alley with multiple hits in the game for Parkston.

Brian Klutz had four hits for Mount Vernon and Sean DeVries added three singles in the game.

The win marked the first for the Bullheads in Sunshine League play to put them at 1-2 and Mount Vernon fell to 3-2 in the league.

The Bullheads take on Mitchell at 5 p.m. Sunday in Mitchell while Mount Vernon looks to bounce back against Dimock/Emery at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Emery.

Alexandria 10, Platte 1

PLATTE -- Tyson Gau went 3-for-5 including a two-run home run to help Alexandria to a 10-1 win over Platte in an amateur baseball game Sunday in Platte.

Peyton Smith also had three hits for Alexandria and finished with three RBIs.

Trever Vermeulen got the win on the mound with his complete-game effort.

Vermeulen did not allow any earned runs and gave up two hits while striking out 11.

Joe Miller took the loss on the mound for Platte, allowing five runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Alexandria improved to 4-1 in the Sunshine League over the weekend, also beating Mitchell 5-2 Friday in Mitchell behind a complete-game effort from Chris Marek. The team takes on Corsica/Stickney at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Alexandria.

Platte (0-3 Sunshine League) hopes to get its first league win against the league-leading Parkston Mudcats at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Parkston.
