PARKSTON -- Brady Nolz pitched a complete-game shutout to open Sunshine League play as the Parkston Mudcats defeated Alexandria 6-0 Sunday in Parkston.
Nolz got out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the first inning and cruised, allowing six hits and five walks in his nine innings for the victory. He struck out nine batters.
Alexandria pitcher Trever Vermeulen also dealt with a bases-loaded situation in the first inning and came away untouched. However, Vermeulen had no such luck in the fourth inning as he walked Jeff Heisinger with the bases full to bring in the game's first run.
Jeff Harris doubled in two more and the Mudcats tacked on two more to take a 5-0 lead after four innings.
Vermeulen finished with six innings pitched, allowing three hits, four walks and striking out six.

Harris was the only Mudcats' player with multiple hits in the game, adding a single to go along with his two-RBI double.
Jordan Gau was the only player for Alexandria with multiple hits, recording two singles in the loss.
The Mudcats improved to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in Sunshine League play. They take on Corsica/Stickney at 8 p.m. Thursday in Corsica.
Alexandria (0-1 Sunshine League) faces off with Mount Vernon at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Alexandria.
Dimock/Emery 2, Parkston Rock Bass 1
EMERY -- Phil Johnson threw eight innings to lead Dimock/Emery past the Parkston Rock Bass 2-1 Sunday in a Sunshine League amateur baseball game.
He gave up three hits, recorded nine strikeouts and walked one. Matt Luckey got the final three outs in the ninth inning and earned the save.
Offensively for Dimock/Emery, Doug Sudbeck had a double and a single, Gary Earl had two singles and Jeremy Pischke had singles.

Parkston's Rich Weise pitched eight innings and took the loss. He gave up eight hits, struck out six batters and walked one.
Billy Hamilton had a double and Kyle Boehmer had a RBI single.
Dimock/Emery, 1-0 in the Sunshine League, plays the Mitchell Mad Dogs at 8 p.m. Thursday in Mitchell, while the Rock Bass play the Parkston Bullheads at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Corsica/Stickney 14, Parkston Bullheads 7
CORSICA -- Luke Bamberg went 3-for-4 with two doubles and six RBIs for the Jags as the Corsica/Stickney amateur baseball team defeated the Parkston Bullheads 14-7 in Sunshine League play Sunday in Corsica.
Bamberg also picked up the win on the mound, throwing six innings while allowing two earned runs on eight hits. He struck out two Bullheads' hitters.
Nate Blom also had three hits for the Jags and Brad Groeneweg had a two-run homer in the win.
Bill Sudbeck picked up the loss on the mound for the Bullheads.

Van Stease had three hits in the game for Parkston and Tim Rands had two hits, including a two-run blast.
Corsica/Stickney's (1-0 Sunshine League) next Sunshine League game is against the Parkston Mudcats at 8 p.m. Thursday in Corsica.
The Bullheads fell to 0-1 in Sunshine League play and take on the Parkston Rock Bass at 2 p.m. Sunday in Parkston.
Mount Vernon 6, Mitchell 3
MOUNT VERNON -- Nick Young pitched five innings to lead Mount Vernon past Mitchell 6-3. He struck out four and gave up two hits. He walked five.
Mount Vernon's Brett Young had a home run and a double. Chase Hetland had a double and Freddy Ellis was 2-for-5 and Jared Deinert was 2-for-3.
Mitchell's Nick Anglin pitched 1 1/3 innings. He gave up five runs, he walked six and allowed two hits.
Jason Skinner was 2-for-4 and Alex Loes was 1-for-3.
