Summit League names Miller athlete of the month

BROOKINGS--On the heels of leading the South Dakota State University women's basketball team to its first Sweet 16 appearance, Macy Miller was named the Summit League's female athlete of the month for March.

BROOKINGS-On the heels of leading the South Dakota State University women's basketball team to its first Sweet 16 appearance, Macy Miller was named the Summit League's female athlete of the month for March.

Miller was also named to the Summit's academic all-league team. The exercise science major owned a 3.49 grade-point average. Players with at least a 3.30 GPA who also played in at least 50 percent of their team's games are eligible.

The Mitchell native averaged 22.3 points, eight rebounds and 3.4 assists per game in seven March contests. She shot 48.1 percent from the field and 43.2 percent from 3-point range, too, helping the Jackrabbits to postseason success.

SDSU (28-7) won the Summit League tournament with an 83-71 win over South Dakota in the championship game. As the six seed in the NCAA Tournament, SDSU defeated Quinnipiac (76-65) and Syracuse (75-64) before falling to No. 2 seed Oregon, 63-53.

Miller finished her career as the Summit's all-time leading scorer with 2,355 points, and was named the tournament MVP.

Last season, Mitchell finished as the top scoring team in Class AA at 63.8 points per game, but by almost every measure, the 2022-23 Kernels are outpacing even that effort.
