Summit hoops roundup: Jackrabbit women extend winning streak to 11

SDSU men blow 22-point lead in loss at Western Illinois

BROOKINGS — The Jackrabbit women exploded for 32 points in the fourth quarter to turn a close game into a 81-58 rout of Western Illinois for their 11th straight win.

After shooting just 26 percent from the floor in the first half the Jacks went 11-of-19 in the final stanza, including 6-of-8 on 3-pointers.

Myah Selland led the Jacks (18-5, 11-0) with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Paige Meyer had 12 points, Haleigh Timmer 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists and Kallie Theisen had a team-high 14 rebounds. Paiton Burckhar added 12 points and Tori Nelson had nine points and six boards.

WIU fell to 8-14, 3-9 in league play.

ST. THOMAS 70, SOUTH DAKOTA 64 in Vermillion - The Coyotes opened the fourth quarter on a 17-2 run but it wasn't enough to dig out of the hole they found themselves in, and the Tommies held on for their first road conference win of the season.

USD (11-12, 7-5) saw its three-game winning streak snapped. St. Thomas improved to 3-8 in Summit League games and 8-13 overall.

Jo Langbehn had 15 points to lead UST, while Jordyn Lamker had 12 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

Grace Larkins had another big game for the Coyotes, scoring 23 points to go with 10 rebounds. Carley Duffney added 13 points, five rebounds and three assists.

The Yotes hit the road next week to face North Dakota Thursday and North Dakota State on Saturday.

MEN

SOUTH DAKOTA 81, ST. THOMAS 67 in St. Paul - Tasos Kamateros had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead five Coyotes in double figures as USD evened its Summit League record at 5-5 and improved to 10-12 overall.

USD shot 56 percent from the floor, including a 9-of-20 effort from beyond the arc, and won the glass 38-24. Damani Hayes and Kruz Perrott-Hunt had 13 points each while AJ Plitzuweit and Mason Archambault each had 11.

For St. Thomas, Parker Bjorklund had 26 points and eight rebounds and Andrew Rohde had 24 points.

The Coyotes will face conference leader Oral Roberts on Monday in Tulsa before returning home to face North Dakota State on Thursday.

WESTERN ILLINOIS 81, SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 73 in Macomb, Ill. - Western Illinois erased a 22-point deficit to force overtime, then dominated the extra stanza as the Leathernecks knocked off South Dakota State for their fifth straight win.

The Jackrabbits had used a 23-0 run in the first half to take control, but aside from that stretch, WIU was the better team for most of the game.

The Leathernecks used a 19-4 run to pull even late in the second half, and both teams squandered opportunities to win it in their final possession of regulation.

WIU then opened overtime with a 9-0 run, effectively ending the game.

Trenton Massner had 30 points, nine rebounds and eight assists for the Leathernecks (14-8, 7-4), who moved into sole possession of second place in the Summit League. Alec Rosner added 16 points, while Jesiah West had nine points, 13 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals.

For SDSU (11-11, 6-4), Zeke Mayo had 27 points and six assists. Matt Dentlinger had 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. The Jacks were outrebounded 45-28 in losing their second game in a row.

SDSU visits Kansas City on Monday, making up a game that was postponed earlier due to weather.
