State volleyball roundup: RC Christian wins five-set thriller over Hill City

WATERTOWN -- Rapid City Christian outlasted Hill City for a Class A state tournament win on Friday. Set scores were 25-21, 26-28, 21-25, 25-20 and 15-12.

Rapid City Christian (29-5): Olivia Kieffer had 23 kills and 14 digs in the win, while Tori Altstiel added 18 kills. Riley Freeland dished out 48 assists. Abby Pierce (18) Emma Schultz (17) and Jaedyn Namanny (14) all reached double-digit digs, as well. Rapid City Christian plays Madison in the fifth-place game at 2 p.m.

Hill City (26-4): Hailey Wathen recorded 33 digs and 14 kills. Dale Schrier finished with 17 kills, while Addisen Barber added 15 assists and 15 digs. Abby Siemonsma also had 22 assists and 15 digs, while Macey Wathen chipped in 11 digs. Hill City plays Winner in the seventh-place game at noon.

Faulkton Area 3, Hitchcock-Tulare 0

HURON -- Faulkton Area earned a sweep over Hitchcock-Tulare on Friday in the Class B state tournament. Set scores were 25-18, 25-16 and 25-20.

Faulkton Area (19-6): Isabel Aesoph stuffed the stat sheet with 23 digs, 23 assists and 20 kills. Peyton Melius added 25 digs and 15 kills, while Taylor Machtemes added 12 kills. Morgan Gutenkauf recorded 16 assists and 10 digs. Ally Cunningham finished with 21 digs in the win. Faulkton Area takes on Bridgewater-Emery at 2 p.m. today in the fifth-place game.

Hitchcock-Tulare (18-6): Kenidee Enander finished with 23 assists and 13 digs. Kaitlyn Schroeder added 34 digs, while Madison Hofer had 11 digs. Dannyn Peterson and Cassidy Johnson both added 10 digs. Hitchcock-Tulare plays Corsica-Stickney at noon today in the seventh-place game.

Aberdeen Central 3, Harrisburg 0

BROOKINGS -- Aberdeen Central cruised past Harrisburg for a Class AA win on Friday. Set scores were 25-23, 25-23 and 25-14.

Aberdeen Central (18-9): Brooklyn Kusler finished with 11 kills and 11 digs, while Kayleigh Fauth chipped in 11 digs. Grace Myhre added 25 assists and eight digs in the win. Sydney Evans added nine digs. Aberdeen Central plays Watertown in the fifth-place game at 2 p.m. today.

Harrisburg (14-13): Mercedes Covrig dished out 22 assists and eight digs. Devanie Andre chipped in 13 digs, while Abby Meister added 10 digs and seven kills. Harrisburg plays Brandon Valley in the seventh-place game at noon today.

Watertown 3, Brandon Valley 2

BROOKINGS -- Watertown took down Brandon Valley in a back-and-forth five-set match on Friday in the Class AA state tournament. Set scores were 25-21, 17-25, 25-16, 22-25 and 15-11.

Watertown (22-5): Emerson Smith recorded 18 digs for the Arrows, while Anna Johnson added a team-high 23 digs. Maggie Heesch put down 20 kills and Jadyn Hoftiezer chipped in 14 digs and 10 kills. Abbyramer finished with 18 digs and Olivia Corey added 41 assists in the win. Watertown plays Aberdeen Central at 2 p.m. today in the fifth-place game.

Brandon Valley (18-9): Brooklyn Grage had a team-best 20 kills, while Kazi Ellingson and Taylor Stemen both had 14 kills. Stemen also finished with 22 digs. Abby Finch chipped in 21 digs and Jenna Stengel added 19 digs. Brandon Valley takes on Harrisburg in the seventh-place game at noon today.
