The first of 16 South Dakota Golf Association championships tees off Saturday, with the Mid-Amateur Championship at Wild Oak Golf Course in Mitchell.
Play begins today at 8 a.m., and a total of 42 players are competing in the 36-hole tournament, which is open to any golfer age 25 and older. The championship concludes Sunday.
Brandon Sigmund, of Mitchell, finished second a year ago and is in the field. He also won the 2012 tournament. Jeff Meyerink, of Mitchell, finished seventh a year ago and is also in the field. Chris Long, of Garretson, is in the tournament after picking up Mid-Amateur victories in 2011 and 2013.
Last year's champion and three-time Mid-Amateur winner, Ryan Jansa, of Sioux Falls, is not in the tournament field.
