State golf roundup: Platte-Geddes boys sit three strokes back through Class B first round

Platte-Geddes finished three strokes off the lead for the Class B boys state golf team championship through the first round Monday at Brookings Country Club.


BROOKINGS -- Platte-Geddes finished three strokes off the lead for the Class B boys state golf team championship through the first round Monday at Brookings Country Club.

The Black Panthers shot a 40-over-par 256 on the first 36 holes, behind first-place Great Plains Lutheran. Chester Area is third with a 41-over-par 257, while Deubrook Area and Ipswich are tied for fourth with a 43-over-par 259. Gregory is sixth with a 49-over-par 265.

The final 36 holes will begin at 8:30 am. Tuesday.

Wessington Springs’ Blake Larson finished the first round tied with Aberdeen Christian’s Jett Becker for second place with a 5-over-par 77. Great Plains Lutheran’s Sam Hansen is atop the leaderboard by four strokes, shooting 1-over-par 73.

Platte-Geddes’ Brody Boltjes sits in a three-way tie for fourth with Howard’s Lane Hodges and Faulkton Area’s Bennett Cassens as all three shot 78. Boltjes’ teammate Dawson Hoffman is in 10th with an 81, while Caden Oberbroekling shot a 97. Great Plains Lutheran’s Nolan Hansen posted an 89 and Colin Jaeger posted a 91 as the top-three individual scores make up the team tally.


Ethan’s Kaden Klumb is tied for 11th with an 82 and Hanson’s Jayden Kayser is tied for 15th with an 84.

ACDC’s Svatos, Burke’s Indahl six strokes off the Class B girls lead

BROOKINGS -- Andes Central/Dakota Christian’s Abigail Svatos and Burke’s Adisyn Indahl are six strokes back following the first round of the Class B girls state golf championship Monday at Edgebrook Golf Course.

Svatos and Indahl both shot 16-over-par 86, while Estelline/Hendricks’ Kaylee Johnson and Bison’s Greta Anderson both shot 80. Miller’s Jayce Pugh is third with an 83 and Bison’s Allison Kahler is fourth with an 84.

Scotland/Menno’s Rylee Conrad is tied for 10th with Selby Area’s Jayda Sawinsky with a 20-over-par 90, while Bon Homme’s Makayla Kelley is tied for 12th with Howard’s Mia Glanzer, White River’s Karlie Cameron and Newell’s Kassidy Weeldreyer, with all for shooting 91. Lyman’s Izzy McNaughton is 16th with a 92.

Estelline/Hendricks holds a seven-shot lead over Bison in the team standings. Estelline/Hendricks shot 58-over-par 268, while Bison had a 275. White River is third with a 278, Howard is fourth with a 281 and Deubrook Area is fifth with a 283.

Winner sets in third place at Class A tourney

SPEARFISH -- Winner Area is in third place after Day 1 of the Class A state girls tournament at Spearfish Canyon Country Club.

The Warriors carded a 393, while Sioux Falls Christian (352) is in the lead. Sisseton (375) sits in second place. Madison (401) and Vermillion (404) round out the top five. Chamberlain is in 10th place with a 433.

Individually, Beresford’s Maiya Muller and Sisseton’s Kelsey Heath are tied atop the field with 75s. Sioux Falls Christian’s Sydney Tims (79), St. Thomas More’s Rylan Horning (82), Mobridge-Pollock’s Callie Weisbeck (84) and Sisseton’s Kierra Silk (84) round out the top five.


Winner Area’s Rylee Root is tied for ninth place with four other golfers. Root shot an 18-over-par 90, shooting 45s on both nines.

Chamberlain’s Alexis Cronk shot a 91 and is tied for 13th place.
