'Elite 15' girls' awards given out

The "Elite 15" female high school athletes received awards Saturday in Mitchell at the Girls and Women in Sport Awards Banquet.
The award recognizes athletes with the highest achievements in the areas of athletic ability, leadership, scholarship and community involvement.
This year's recipients were: Ashley Robinson, of Hanson; Taylor Anshutz, of Gregory; Mindy Kraft, of Wessington Springs; Marie Malloy, of Parkston; Kelsey Kaufmann, of Arlington; Karley Konkol, of Custer; Cassidy Gebhart, of Elkton-Lake Benton; Mikayla Saathoff, of Estelline; Jussy Tuscherer, of Northwestern; Margaret McCloud, of Rapid City Stevens; Carly Carper, of Rutland; Allie Lahren, of Sioux Falls Lincoln; Alex Hess, of Sioux Falls Roosevelt; Caitlin Duffy, of St. Thomas More; and Chloe Cornemann, of Yankton.

Ronda Rinehart of Freeman was also awarded a leadership award at the event.
Mitchell Black wins two of three

After an 11-3 loss to Sioux Falls West on Saturday, Mitchell Black came back with a 13-6 win over Parkston Saturday and a 9-1 win over Sioux Falls East in teener baseball action Sunday in Mitchell.
Mitchell Black's Parker Wenzel had two of the team's four hits in the loss to S.F. West and pitched a complete-game two-hitter in the 9-1 win over S.F. East.
Josh Feiner had a complete-game victory in Saturday's win over Parkston. He allowed five hits and struck out two. Jed Schmidt and Wenzel each had three hits in that game.
Mitchell Black improved to 4-3 Sunday and takes on Sioux Falls West Tuesday in Sioux Falls.
Mitchell Grey splits weekend teener contests

Mitchell Grey had two teener baseball contests Saturday in Mitchell. The team fell 12-3 to Brookings in game one and bounced back with a 12-8 win over Yankton.
Ryland DeVries took the loss on the mound in the first game while Taylor Uithoven went 1-for-1 with two RBIs.
Elijah Pommar picked up the win in the second game with four innings pitched. He allowed three runs on three hits and struck out one.
Pommar helped out his own cause by going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs. Wyatt Smith drove in five runs with a 3-for-3 performance.
Mitchell Grey has a 1-2 record and takes on Yankton in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Drake Field in Mitchell.
Mitchell White drops two games

Matt Muth went 2-for-2 with two runs and two stolen bases in an 18-4 loss to Bon Homme Saturday in teener baseball action in Mitchell.
Muth took the loss on the mound, throwing four innings and striking out three.
In a game Sunday against Yankton, Muth collected two hits and two stolen bases but Mitchell White lost 8-7 in Mitchell.
Ross Yeo threw five innings, allowing two unearned runs on one hit and struck out seven. Josh Loecker suffered the loss in relief.
Spencer Neugebauer went 2-for-3 Sunday and the team fell to 1-2 on the season. Mitchell White takes on Bon Homme again Thursday in Tyndall.
