Corsica/Stickney tops Plankinton in extra innings

CORSICA -- Derek Bultje had two hits including a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 14th inning to help lead Corsica/Stickney to a 5-4 win over Plankinton Friday night in Corsica.

Bultje's RBI gave him the victory on the mound as he went seven innings in relief, allowing one earned run.

Chris Hill took the loss on the mound, allowing one earned run in six innings. Hill sent the game to extra innings with a homerun in the top of the ninth to tie the game.

Kyle Bruinsma had four hits for Plankinton and Luke Bamberg had two hits including a triple for Corsica/Stickney.

Salem picks up league victory

SALEM -- The Salem Cubs defeated Dell Rapids 2-1 in a Cornbelt League amateur baseball game Sunday in Salem.

Luke Thune pitched a complete-game three hitter and struck out 10 in the victory.

Brendan Phillips and Steve Mehlbrech had two hits each and Brian Duxbury had a two-RBI double to help Salem improve to 11-5 overall and 10-5 in league play.

The Cubs' next game is against Canova at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Salem.
