ABERDEEN -- The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team split its season-opening doubleheader at the Presentation Dome Classic on Friday. The Tigers took down Dakota State, 6-3, to open the season, but fell 10-1 to Dickinson State (N.D.).
The Tigers scored six runs in the first inning against the Trojans. They were held scoreless the rest of the contest, but Mitchell native Alyson VanderPol and Devany Farris combined to strike out four batters and hold the Trojans to three runs.
At the plate, Alexis Konda and Stephanie Gabel each had two-hit games, as Konda also drove in two runs. DWU finished with eight hits in the win.
The Tigers were held to three hits in the second game, while Dickinson State recorded 12 hits and 10 earned runs. Kyllie Ramirez allowed eight earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. Kindra Clark drove in DWU’s only run.
DWU (1-1) plays Valley City State and Presentation today in Aberdeen.
