Mia Mullenmeister had her hand in everything on Tuesday at Joe Quintal Field.

She scored two goals and assisted on the Mitchell High School girls soccer team’s third in the Kernels’ 3-1 win over Pierre. It’s the Kernels fourth win in their last five games.

“Pierre is a very strong team, one that will have to be accounted for come playoff time, but for (Tuesday), it was a nice win,” MHS coach Bob Lemon said. “We talked in the huddle before the game that every game over the past couple of years we have gotten closer and closer to Pierre. It was great to be on the plus side of the scoreboard.”

Mullenmeister assisted on Lily Peterson’s first-half goal, which was the only scored before the break.

After halftime, Mullenmeister gave the Kernels a 2-0 lead, with Ava Zilla assisting. She added her second goal less than a minute after Pierre’s Brianna Sargent cut the Kernel lead in half.

“To score so quickly after Pierre had drawn within one and seemingly had momentum swinging their way was just incredible,” Lemon said.

The Kernels finished with a 10-7 advantage on shots on goal. Caroline Titze saved six shots.

Mitchell (6-3) hosts Sioux Falls Christian on at 4 p.m. Thursday.

“We know that we can't let down,” Lemon said. “There are still more games to play, and these girls have an opportunity to have a very special season.”
