WOLSEY-Mitchell Christian surrendered the first 16 points and never recovered against Wolsey-Wessington on Tuesday.

The Golden Eagles lost 60-30 in a high school boys basketball contest in Wolsey.

"We weren't ready right off the get-go," Mitchell Christian coach Jesse Tolsma said. "We were trying to climb an uphill battle the rest of the way, but the kids fought back. I am really proud of their effort. We just have to get a little more better at being prepared right off the tip and ready to go."

Mitchell Christian trailed 18-7 after the first quarter and 32-18 at halftime. The Golden Eagles mustered just seven points in the third quarter and five in the fourth.

"We always have to be prepared," Tolsma added. "We are really working on teach toughness, just being ready once you step onto the court and just competing for the full four quarters."

Alec Nelson netted 15 points for the Golden Eagles (1-2). Christian Cooper added nine points.

Bennett White paced the Warbirds (2-0) with 22 points, while Darian Ogunjemilusi netted 20 points in the win.

Mitchell Christian will play Minneapolis Patrick Henry (Minnesota) on Dec. 29 in the Mike Miller Classic at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.

"We are really looking forward to it," Tolsma said. "We are ready to see how we compete. We know we are going against a tough team. We want to see how we stack up against them. How much we have improved from day one. That will be a good measuring stick for us."
