SIOUX FALLS (AP) -- The coach and general manager of the Sioux Falls Stampede minor league hockey team says he has been fired.

Kevin Hartzell tells the media that the team informed him of the decision Monday night. He had been in charge of the United States Hockey League team for seven seasons. He leaves with the most wins in team history, with 224. But the Stampede went 17-36-7 last season and missed the playoffs for the first time in Hartzell's tenure.

The Stampede and also the Sioux Falls Fighting Pheasants baseball club are coming under new leadership. Bill Sexton is selling his majority ownership in the franchises to a group of regional businessmen.
