Senior golfers gather for SDGA’s senior showcase: Aanenson finishes second among Class B boys


PIERRE -- The South Dakota Golf Association hosted a senior showcase on Monday at Hillsview Golf Course, with prep golfers from all three girls classes and the Class B boys competing. There were 29 girls and 14 boys in the event.

For the Class B boys, James Valley Christian’s Austin Boomsma won by eight strokes, shooting a two-over-par 74. Freeman’s Tryg Aanenson finished in second with 82 strokes. He birdied Holes No. 2 and 5, while shooting par on eight holes.

Deubrook Area’s Luke Urevig (84) finished in third, followed by Jones County’s Riley Rankin (85) and Crow Creek’s Tee Saul (87).

Along with competing against their own class, the girls were also combined to crown an overall girls champion. Sioux Falls O’Gorman had a pair of golfers top the standings. Carly Kunkel and Sophie Jansa each shot an 8-over-par 80, followed by Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Sunni Josephson two strokes behind at 82 strokes.

Josie Rush, of Philip, took fourth with 83 strokes and there was a three-way tie for fifth place. West Central’s Lauryn Driscoll, Sioux Falls Christian’s Lauren Tims and Brandon Valley’s Tanna Lehfeldt all carded 84 strokes.


Driscoll and Tims paced the Class A girls golfers, tying atop the leaderboard. Mya Maxwell, of Madison, and Vermillion’s Alexandra Carr tied for third with 86 strokes and Winner’s Addy Root rounded out the top five with 89 strokes. Root shot five pars, including four on the front nine to take 13th overall.

Following Rush in Class B girls, Newell’s Abbie Nelson took second at 87 strokes. Estelline/Hendricks’ Sophie Johnson took third at 92 strokes and Platte-Geddes’ Mariah VanZee earned fourth in Class B with 94 strokes. She hit a birdie on Hole No. 5 and took 18th overall.

Katie Reif earned 20th overall and fifth in Class B by carding 96 strokes. The McCook Central/Montrose golfer hit six pars.
