BROOKINGS -- South Dakota State running back Zach Zenner will be the inaugural recipient of the Mickey Charles Award. The honor is given to a Football Championship Subdivision player that has excelled academically.

Zenner is the only player in Division I football history to rush for 2,000 yards in three consecutive seasons. He is also the Missouri Valley Football Conference all-time leader in rushing touchdowns (61) and rushing yards (6,548).

The running back has also maintained a 3.86 grade-point average while majoring in biology/pre-medicine.

Several NFL scouts have watched Zenner at several SDSU practices, although it is unclear whether the 6-foot senior will be drafted or not.
