Maggie Fiscel proved Friday that age and experience isn't everything in golf. The Scotland golfer picked up her first high school region tournament win at the Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell and she's not even in high school.
Fiscel is a seventh-grader, and the youngest girl on her team. She shot a 50 in the front nine and a 37 in the back to finish with an 87 to win the girls' Region 4B tournament.
South Central took the team title, shooting a 294. Scotland came in second with a 306 and Platte/Geddes came in third place with a 324.
This is the greatest day of my life," Scotland girls' golf coach Turk Peterka said. "I've coached golf now at Scotland for seven years and this has been the best group of kids I've ever had."
Fiscel bested second-place finisher Sydney Benter of South Central by two strokes to grab the title. Benter finshed with an 89. Fiscel said it felt special to win. Gregory's Taylor Anshutz came in third place with a score of 94.

Other golfers who helped South Central to the team title were Kristen Shanahan (101) and Teresa Opbroek (104).
The top 16 placers advanced to the state tournament.
Being one of the youngest golfers on the course on Friday, Fiscel said she was pretty nervous going into the tournament.
"I practiced a lot to get ready for (Friday)," Fiscel said.
Peterka said being able to compete in the pre-region tournament earlier in the week helped the team get a feel for the course and know what to expect.
"I think we're just plain used to this kind of weather. We just really concentrated on the game today and it's all about getting to state," Peterka said. "We've had a really good season and I couldn't be happier."
