Schroeder, Byers take cross-country titles

PLATTE-Thaniel Schroeder and Ella Byers paced their teams to team titles at the Platte-Geddes Invitational on Saturday.

Schroeder won the 5,000-meter run for Freeman Academy/Marion in 16-minutes and 34 seconds. The Bearcats won the boys title with 15 points, finishing well ahead of second Platte-Geddes (36).

Byers covered the distance in 18:54.00 for Chamberlain, which won the girls team title with nine points. Byers just nipped Winner Area's Sidda Schuyler by two seconds. The Warriors took second with 20 points.

In the boys race, Platte-Geddes' Caden Tegethoff came in second (16:52.00) and Burke's Jackson Liewer placed third (17:19.00). Freeman Academy/Marion's Titus Roesler (17:23.00) and Mitchell Christian's Alec Nelson (17:49.00) took fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the girls race, Chamberlain's Allison Hough placed third in 19:32.00 and Andes Central/Dakota Christian's Isabella Brouwer finished fourth in 19:34.00. Kinsey Evans (19:51.00) took fifth for Chamberlain, which had three of the top five runners.
