Salem’s McCormick takes eighth in all-around at 4-H Finals Rodeo
FORT PIERRE -- Salem’s Michaela McCormick made the most of her weekend at the South Dakota 4-H Finals Rodeo from Aug. 15-18.
Competing in the girls junior division, McCormick took second in goat tying, with her average time of 16.4 coming in slightly less than two seconds behind champion Josie Mousel, of Colman. McCormick went on to finish eighth in the all-around with 24 points.
St. Charles native Taos Weborg finished second in cattle riding with a total score of 128, four behind winner Tate Meyer, of Huron.
Kennebec’s Brooke Diedrichs took fourth in junior barrel racing at 34.861, while Parkston’s Mariah Maxwell was sixth at 34.886. White Lake’s Rylee McCord was fourth in girls breakaway and Winner’s Garrett Phillips was fifth in boys breakaway.
In the senior division, the tandem of Cayden Slykhuis (Letcher) and Tater Moody (Woonsocket) took second in team roping with an average time of 37.45, as Humboldt natives Jace and Reece Ullerich took first in 37.45.
Colome brothers Riley and Riggin Shippy finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in bull riding. Riley posted a score of 72, two points ahead of Riggin.
Parkston’s Lexy Leischner was fourth in barrel racing, finishing with an average time of 35.41, while Mitchell’s Traden Lockwood was sixth in saddle bronc riding with a score of 51.
