SIOUX FALLS -- Kristin Sabers played some extra golf Monday at the Warrior Invitational at Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls.
The Mitchell High School junior took part in a playoff with three other golfers after each girl finished with a round of 77 to tie for first.
Yankton's Megan Mingo eventually earned the win and Sabers officially tied for second place with Sioux Falls O'Gorman's Michaela Kouri and Brookings' Lauren Fitts.
"There's quite a group of girls that could win a state title and she showed that she has a chance to contend," Mitchell head coach Mark Horan said.
Mitchell tied for ninth place as a team with a score of 385 on the course that will host the state tournament. O'Gorman and Pierre tied for first place with scores of 324.
Macy Miller finished one stroke away from her best score of the season as she shot a 92. Madison VanWalleghen came into the clubhouse with her best mark of the year with a 103.
"I like to see that they played well on a course that's going to be holding the state tournament," Horan said. "It's the time of year where we should be peaking."
Horan said the team had a good day of recovering from bad shots, including hitting out of the trees and bunkers.
The team returns to action today as it hosts the Mitchell Invitational at 10:30 a.m. at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.
