Roosevelt sweeps Kernel softball in regular season finale

Despite recording 25 hits in two games, the Mitchell High School softball team dropped both contests to Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Tuesday. Roosevelt notched an 11-2 win, and then took down the Kernels, 6-4.

Jacey Linke suffered the loss in Game 1, as she allowed 11 earned runs on 14 hits. She also struck out three batters. Kathleen Nash doubled for one of Mitchell’s five hits, while Keirstyn Krcil and Ally Barlean both drove in a run. Kassidy Overweg and Sicely Allhiser each had a hit in the loss, as well.

In Game 2, Mitchell recorded 20 hits but could only turn it into four runs. Krcil paced the offense with a 4-for-4 day at the plate. Barlean, Nash and Brooklyn Jarding all picked up three hits, while Ruby Uithoven and Camryn Krogman both had two hits. Overweg had the team’s only extra-base hit and drove in a pair of runs.

Krcil started and gave up six earned runs on nine hits.

Mitchell (3-22) plays in the state tournament on Friday in Sioux Falls.
