The Dakota Wesleyan University athletic department announced Friday that women’s soccer coach Dale Roden will not be back with the team next season.

DWU athletic director Curt Hart said in a statement that the department has decided to go in a different direction with the program effective immediately.

The Tigers recently finished the 2013 season with an overall record of 4-12-2 and 1-8-1 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.

DWU fell short of the GPAC playoffs, finishing ninth in the conference.

“Dale helped build the program into one that is respected in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, and we wish him all the best in the future,” Hart said in a statement released Friday.

Roden started coaching at DWU in 2007 and compiled a career record of 56-58-12. He led the Tigers to their first GPAC playoff appearance in 2008.

Roden’s 2009 team won the GPAC regular season and postseason titles. The recently concluded season marked the first time Roden failed to get DWU into the postseason in five years.

According to a statement released by DWU Friday, the search for a new coach will begin immediately.
